Students with Exceptionalities"If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn" Challenge Questions: This document features five short papers on
challenge questions that deal with exceptionalities. These papers were required for ED 4240 - Intro to the Exceptional Learner and they were completed by me.
Group Project: This project consisted of a group project of people with the same teachables. The purpose was to find resources and teaching strategies to help students with learning differences - resources that will be useful and empirically-based. The project included resources for teachers, parents, apps, videos, articles/books, images/graphics, and software/programs.
The website that my group created is called www.artforeveryabilty.weebly.com on teaching strategies for students with learning differences. The areas that I was responsible for researching are: Art and Learning Differences - Autism & Anxiety, Art Across the Curriculum - Art & Science , and Useful Apps: Autism and Anxiety. |
Social Justice & Diversity
The first document is a part of a critical autobiography reflection of the course consisting of reflections that were required for before, during, and at the end of the course. The second document is summaries of literature/discussion circles where I took a different role to explain concepts discussed in each chapter, to come to an understanding of social justice, and ideas to incorporate in the classroom .

Class Presentations
R.E.M (Representations of Exceptionalities in the Media) this presentation was a group presentation by Sara Gardiner, Andrea Rose, Gabriele Carre, and Jody Hicks for ED 5000 conference. This presentation looks at how people with exceptionalities are portrayed in films/tv shows, particularly how they use their learning differences to overcome obstacles as opposed to giving them strategies to change them/to be like everyone else. The presentation defines sociology terms in the films/tv shows and explains the social implications of these terms in relations to their exceptionalities. It is about accepting people with exceptionalities for who they are and looking at the disability as an ability as opposed giving strategies to change who they are and social implications labels have on these people.
This presentation was a group presentation that was completed for Intro to the Adolescent Learner. It explains general depression , the signs/symptoms, and focuses on certain types that is common among adolescents. It also features strategies for students coping with depression, implications for teachers, and also resourses/places to go for professional help in the province.
